This beautifully illustrated book takes us on a trip to the mythical octopus's garden deep beneath the sea.
Drawn especially for children -- but very cool for adults as well -- Octopus's Garden celebrates the freedom of being a child and being able to live your dreams: "We would be so happy you and me, no one there to tell us what to do."
The words and pictures express the joy of discovery and the comfort of being with your friends: "Oh what joy for every girl and boy, knowing they're happy and they're safe."
The accompanying CD features Ringo Starr reading the words to young children in a very friendly and reassuring way. There is also an opening message to kids from Ringo, a new recording of the song (no, it's not the Beatles), and an instrumental version for kids to sing along to.
The words to the song were inspired by a story that Ringo Starr was told in 1968 while sailing in the Mediterranean. He wrote the simple, playful words after being told by the boat's captain that octopuses travel along the sea bed and pick up shiny objects and stones which they use to build gardens in front of their caves.
This children's adventure is nicely illustrated by Ben Cort, a talented British artist with a simple, light touch who visually creates the fantasy land that we first heard about on Abbey Road. All in all, there is great humanity and innocence in this book and CD.
Highly Recommended.

This was my kids fave Beatle song when they were little so I couldn't pass this one up to add to the collection I'm starting for my future grand babies.
