I own and love volumes 1 and 2 of DeConnick's run with "Captain Marvel" and I love this new volume, as well. The story is great and it was especially fun to see Carol interacting with the other Avengers. Her interactions with Thor are a special highlight. DeConnick's writing is just so awesome! There's a lot of Spider-Woman in her run with Captain Marvel and DeConnick writes their friendship superbly. There's also a sneak preview of sorts for Kamala Khan (the next Ms. Marvel) at the end of the story, so that's neat. I also love seeing all the different women DeConnick puts in, from young girls to mothers, friendly elderly women, business women, secretaries, fighters, spies, strategists and everything, really. It's great!
The art in this book is okay. I don't like that the women are all drawn so teeny and the men are hulks (especially when the women can pack near-to or the same punch as their male muscle-bound peers), but I'm at least used to Filipe Andrade's odd art style at this point, which I know was a point of contention when volume 2 and its related issues came out. I feel that it's improved since that volume and I actually enjoy it for the most part. I love Joe Quinones' covers and they're all in here along with some of the alternate covers, which is great (I wish he would just do the art for the series or that they would at least bring back volume 1's artists, but whatever). Scott Hepburn, Matteo Buffagni and Pepe Laraz have a great run in this book. My only problem with the art is when I'm guessing Gerardo Sandoval takes the helm. He makes Captain America look like a mini blue/white hulk action figure with World of Warcraft shoulders and the women look utterly ridiculous.
